How to convert WebP to PNG

  1. Step 1

Drop the WebP file, or paste an image you copied. PNG is already selected as the output.

  2. Step 2

Leave the width alone for a same-size copy, or set a smaller one. PNG has no quality slider, because there is nothing to trade away.

  3. Step 3

Read the size line, then download the .png.

Pick PNG when the app, editor or upload form in front of you won't accept WebP. The PNG is lossless: the pixels your browser decoded from the WebP are written out exactly, and transparent pixels stay transparent — there is no flatten colour to choose, as there is for JPG.

Expect the PNG to be larger than the WebP, often by a lot for photographs, because WebP is built to be small and PNG is built to be exact. The size line shows both numbers measured from the real files.

Questions

Does the PNG keep the WebP's transparency?

Yes. Clear pixels in the WebP are clear in the PNG; nothing is filled in.

Why is the PNG so much larger than the WebP?

WebP compresses far more aggressively. A lossless PNG of the same picture stores every pixel, so it weighs more. The tool reports the exact difference.

Will the PNG look better than the WebP?

No. If the WebP was saved lossy, its lost detail is gone for good. The PNG just stops any more being lost when you edit and save again.

What will the file be called?

Your original name plus the width and the new extension — photo.webp at 1200 px wide becomes photo-1200w.png.
